Hello there! So you know how sometimes you get really excited about something, vow to be committed, and then get distracted by…well everything! That’s what happened to my blog expedition! Don’t worry though, I have every intention of being a more devout blogger in the near future. Since my last post, Ben and I have checked one more New Year’s resolution of our list-buy a house! (Sign up for mission trip, check! Become home owners, check! Wouldn’t you like to know what else is on that list?…patience my friend patience!) We signed a contract a few weeks ago on this little beauty, so I figured it was time to officially make an announcement! Let’s be honest though, I was craving a big chocolate cup cake and needed a healthy distraction…Thus, my first blog in over a month! (Cue trumpet sound!)
So here’s the full story of how the Fuller house came to be… Unfortunately, the story begins with pots and pans all over our apartment catching last Summer’s absent rain. Even more unfortunately though, our apartment decided to do nothing about the water damage for about um…two weeks! So one thing lead to another, and we decided it was time to find a new place to call home. Right out of the gate we were ready to walk through House #1, seeing as we’d had our eye on it for a month! Once we walked through House #1, we were convinced it was the right house for us. (In foresight I really fell in love with everything outside the house. i.e the neighborhood, the beautiful park, and new elementary school. Ben was more in love with the inside, because he saw a list of exciting handy man projects.) So we put an offer down! Sadly though, so did three other families! Needless to say, our “best and final offer” only ended up being our final. Next came House #2. I LOVED this house! I’ll be honest though, I was emotionally attached to House #2 and clearly home buying is no place for emotions. I took one look inside the baby blue nursery and instantly pictured Ben and I starting our little nest. On the other hand, Ben took one look at the street and pictured…well, the opposite. Even still, we put an offer down. Thankfully though, the owners did not budge much on their counter. This gave us the opportunity to take a step back and really think hard about our next move. While I was not happy about the decision, Ben ultimately decided House #2 was not for us. On this very same day though, Lexford Lane popped up on HAR! (Just to clarify, we walked away from House #2 Saturday morning and then found Lexford Lane that afternoon.) Ben called me over to look at the house and I reluctantly viewed the gallery. As I looked at the pictures hiding all emotion, Ben told me the price of the house. Shocked, I said, “Well, what’s wrong with it!” I am happy to tell you today, NOTHING! In less than 24 hours Lexford Lane went on the market, we walked through, put an offer down, and our offer was accepted! To say the Lord provided would be an understatement! I am humbled not only by His provision, but also by my husband’s wisdom as he guided us through the home buying process. Let me tell ya, I am one blessed lil lady!
Lexford Lane was built in 1969 by the sweetest little couple, Eleanor and Ronald. That’s right, Ben and I will only be the second family to live in this house! Over 30 years ago two lovebirds from New York moved to Houston to start their family and in 30 short days two lovebirds from Texas will take the first step to start their family. (New Year’s resolution #3 here we come)!
“For the Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him.” Mark 6:8
I never thought I’d be a blog writer and yet here I sit typing away! Honestly, I don’t consider myself cool enough…To be a blogger I felt like I needed to have a unique talent or passion… such as knitting or cooking with obscure ingredients. I tried knitting once, unfortunately sleeping on the 24 hour drive to Michigan became more appealing…I love cooking, but I consider it a victory that my husband has started eating tomatoes since getting married. Thus, I approach this new venture kind of like the new kid at school does the lunchroom. Will I have anyone to sit with? What will I talk about? Do I have anything in my lunchbox worth trading?
Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is not intimidated by the “cool table”. (Thank goodness, haha)! All jokes aside though, the Lord recently called Ben and I to something that has us both bubbling over!!! WE ARE GOING TO KENYA, AFRICA!!! We are going to Africa for over two weeks to work with the orphans of Little Eden’s Self-Sustaining Orphanage. During our time in Africa, we will also have the opportunity to do ministry within a special needs orphanage, an infant orphanage, and the Masai tribe. Ben and I will be doing everything from constructing a barn to changing diapers on our adventure to Africa. Needless to say, we could not be more thrilled about this opportunity!
As I began to tackle my “blog fear”, the Lord brought Luke 6:45 to mind. (“For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of”). Our hearts are so full, that we just had to have a place to share the overflow! I/we can not wait to share more about our upcoming adventure! Continue to follow our blog as the countdown to Africa begins! (Who knows, maybe I will have something in my lunchbox worth trading).
Kwa Heri (Goodbye in Swahili) 🙂
